TOUR NOW SOLD OUT
We are pleased to be the Official Travel Partner of the most historic of all marathons and in 2010 Athens will celebrate the 2,500th anniversary of the Battle of Marathon.
2500 years ago a certain Phidippides is reputed to have run from the battle of Marathon to Athens to declare victory over the Persians. In 1898 the historic route was run again as the first marathon of the modern Olympic era. In 2004 the Olympic marathon returned to the classic route and British fans will aways remember the collapse of Paula Radcliffe in the fierce heat of the summer.
The Athens Classic Marathon runs on the same route as the 2004 Olympics but as it is held on the last day of October you will not encounter the oppressive heat Paula Radcliffe encountered on her fateful attempt to win the Olympic race - although the hills remain the same and it can be relatively warm at 20-22C.
Our tour to the Athens Classic Marathon is based at the Athenisan Callirhoe Hotel, located at the Acropolis and a few minutes walk from the finish at the historic Panathenaikon Stadium - the perfect location for sightseeing in Athens and race activities.
